Iterative modelling, prediction and data integration of energy metabolism in a single cell
(WP1 leader Martijn Huynen) 

This WP will model energy metabolism and mitochondria at multiple levels of complexity. In a bottom-up strategy, the flux distribution of mitochondria in health and disease will be modeled in the context of the entire cellular metabolism. To reinforce and complement the predictive power of this genome-scale flux model we will create quantitative dynamic models of relevant mitochondrial and cellular subsystems. We will also apply top-down approaches to model large-scale experimental data at multiple levels of complexity to determine important observables that correlate with energy metabolism and to obtain biomarkers for health and disease.
